6 Good Reasons To Love Our Small Space Stoves

6 Good Reasons To Love Our Small Space Stoves

Do you know why we love our small space stoves? And no, it's not just because they're blooming beautiful...

It's because we've built them for scratch. We came up with innovative designs, created prototypes, had them safety tested and now manufacture them direct from our workshop in Cornwall. And due to this love affair of a relationship with them, we know they work. We're confident they are the best solution for small spaces that you'll find on the market.

Our small wood stoves have a number of features which make them ideal for glamping, vanlife and garden office setups. We have laid some of these features out below, and welcome questions and queries, so please drop us a line if we've stoked any curiosities in you!

FEATURE #1: LIGHTWEIGHT

Our Shepherd™Stove, designed specifically for Shepherd's huts and suitable campervans, weighs a mere 13.25kg! When we had this little beast tested up at BSRIA (Building Services Research and Information Association), the team there were astounded at how much of a punch our little Shepherd packs, as well as how efficient she is! She was the smallest stove to ever be tested on their rigs - perfect for tiny spaces of around 28 cubic meters and below, fitting right in to the tiny home movement.

Weighing in at 24.7kg and 28kg respectively, our Traveller™ and Fintan™ stoves have proven the right choice for glamping sites across the UK and beyond... imagine carting a stove of 45++kg across a field to be installed for a "season" and then having to undo that all again a few months later. Our stoves are easily carried into the remotest of places and are light enough to be safely installed, whilst still performing to high standards. We've even had them installed in treehouses, hanging treetents, canal boats and glamping domes.

Our largest stove - the Tana™ - weighs in at 45kg in total, however is easily deconstructed into 3 easy-to-assemble parts! Boasting a wood store at its base and an efficiency of 85%, customers have said:

" One word, fabulous! We have ours fitted in our garden/ kitchen room and it is efficient clean and oh so useful. Ours was fitted by the company and they were just charming and so helpful. A joy to own and I am heartened by the wonderful customer service. Go for it! It’s absolutely worth it, especially in these uncertain times as an alternative heating method.

FEATURE #2: AIRWASH SYSTEM

We have designed our small wood stoves in such a way that air blows across the stove glass whilst the stove is in use, so keeping the glass clean and preventing blackening of the pane. No point in having a glass door on a stove if you can't see the flames through it! Our glass is easily replaced in the case of accidental breakage - simply slide it up and slot a new one in!

Our lovely friends at Camperdreamin say:

"My favourite features are the window which doesn't need constant cleaning (unlike our last stove) and the space on top of the stove for cooking and heating"

FEATURE #3: COOKING FUNCTION

As we are a "small space stove" manufacturer, we understand the challenges and difficulties of operating in a small space. Hence why our Shepherd, Traveller, Fintan and Tana stoves have all been designed to be able to allow for cooking on the top plate of the stove, with our flue systems exiting from the rear of the stove body. Pop a kettle on top of any of them, or - like some of our customers - a dutch oven, casserole dish, frying pan and the like.

The lids of all of our small wood stoves can be lifted for more intense heat, and are sealed with a fire ropeseal to create a gas-tight fit when shut. In addition, our Traveller stove offers the option of having "wings" as part of its top plate, which act as two "hot plates", so allowing for increased surface area to keep food warm on. The "wings" on this version can't be taken off and put back on as they are part of the actual top plate of the stove, however our Fintan stove offers this as a feature - removable side "wings" to adjust according to your needs.

Our brilliantly versatile and efficient CE-approved Traveller Stove can be fitted in yurts, house conservatories or even converted school buses!

FEATURE #4: LOG LOADING

Our four small wood stoves have all been designed to accept a "standard" sized log* and one of our favourite features of our stoves is the ability to load wood both via the front door and via the top lid. This is a big plus if you need to add some more fuel whilst the kettle is boiling on the top plate of the stove, or if lifting the lid is better for refuelling for a particular reason. In a tiny space, options are often limited, so having an appliance that is versatile makes life work a lot better and keeps things functioning as they should.

FEATURE #5: UNBREAKABLE!

We are so proud of the fact that there are pretty much no parts on our small wood stoves that can break! Most wood stoves have fire bricks, which are very fragile and break easily - ours are made from cold rolled steel which is welded together and so even if for some rare reason a part does break off, it can be easily fixed and welded back together. This also means our stoves stand the test of time - we have had many customers still happy with their wood stoves after 10+ years, with them performing as they should and no breakages!

FEATURE #6: EFFICIENCY

Our Shepherd stove is 88% efficient, which is almost unheard of! This means that the majority of what that little stove is doing, is converting fuel into heat, so very little waste is produced in this process. The Traveller boasts an efficiency of 87% and the Fintan sits at 80%, whilst the Tana is 85% efficient. This accounts for the many customer reports of how much heat our stoves put out, despite their smaller size. Cold rolled steel (which our stoves are made from) is an incredible radiator of heat and there is very little waste produced in its operation - we had one of our customers get in touch to say that they had contracted their chimney sweep to clean the stove / chimney after a year (as we recommend) and he was shocked to find out that there was almost nothing to clean after a year of burning!

The above few features are just a small snatch of our well-designed and beautifully crafted wood stoves. We are most proud of the fact that our stoves are Cornish-designed and made, from start to finish in our workshop. We have the most amazing little team, who work tirelessly to ensure only the best quality and all the love and care is put into these special items. We love to talk about our stoves, so please please get in touch if you have any questions at all and we will gladly help!

*What ever does "standard" mean when it comes to log sizes?! For us, however, to put a "measurement" onto it, we would say it is about 25cm long and about 15cm across!
