Last year we were delighted to be invited to collaborate on a conversion build with our good friends Passenger Clothing. The brief - to supply and install a small stove for their Little Firs project.
More than a stylish one-off — Passenger Clothing’s Little Firs project is a working blueprint for a slower, more intentional way of travelling. Converted from a 2002 VW LT46 long-wheelbase minibus, the vehicle has been completely stripped back and reimagined as an off-grid mobile cabin — warm, simple, and fully self-contained.
At the centre of that comfort? The Anevay Shepherd Stove — compact, lightweight, and efficient enough to heat the entire space through the colder months.
Building Little Firs
Passenger’s in-house team designed the interior to reflect their values: sustainability, simplicity, and time well spent outdoors. Every material was carefully sourced, from the natural wood cladding and recycled insulation to the limewashed walls and reclaimed flooring. Solar panels power the lighting and electrics, and built-in water tanks support a compact kitchen and outdoor shower system. It’s fully off-grid — built to go anywhere, with minimal footprint.
Heating, though, had to be both functional and atmospheric. That’s where Anevay came in.
Why the Shepherd Stove?
The Shepherd Stove was chosen for its small footprint (just 28 x 36cm), low weight (13.25kg), and proven reliability in compact living spaces like vans, boats, and shepherd’s huts. It tucks neatly into Little Firs’ living area, mounted on a bespoke hearth, with a flue running cleanly through the ceiling to avoid any intrusion into usable space.
With 1.7kW of output, it’s more than capable of keeping the insulated space warm — even on frost-covered mornings. A flat cooking surface on top adds extra utility, allowing for coffee brewing or simple one-pot meals without firing up a gas hob or switching on the electric.
Form and Function on the Road
The stove doesn’t just heat the space — it changes how the space feels. Lighting it becomes part of the rhythm of the day: a way to dry damp gear, take the edge off cold evenings, or simply slow down and reset after a long hike. And unlike many campervan heating solutions, there are no complex electronics or noisy fans — just a solid fire and the quiet crackle of burning wood.
Designed to Last
Just like Little Firs itself, the Shepherd Stove is built for the long haul. It’s CE-approved for tiny living, made in Cornwall using durable, responsibly sourced materials, and designed to last a lifetime with simple maintenance. For Passenger, it wasn’t just a heating option — it was a natural fit.
